Liverpool International Flute Competition 2024

We are excited to announce that following the success on our first ever Liverpool International Flute Competition in 2023 that we will be holding the competition again in 2024. Our goal is to encourage technical and musical excellence through relevant and thoughtful programming. It is clear that there are underrepresented communities in the classical music industry, and compositional voices that have before been overlooked, or simply just not heard. Fortunately for us, there is an abundance of wonderful and credible works for our instrument by a diverse range of composers that deserve to be studied, celebrated and performed alongside the wonderful repertoire we may currently recognise as more familiar. We hope the repertoire choices for this competition will inspire flautists to continue to take an active interest in researching music by composers of diverse backgrounds.

Each piece must be recorded in one single take. You may however upload 2 separate videos (one for each full work you perform) if you prefer.

Competitors should be clearly visible in the centre of the video, facing the camera, with their full flute in shot.

At the beginning of each video, please announce clearly your name and your choice of repertoire.

Think about where you film your video. Your acoustics may impact the clarity of sound in your performance. An overly echoey acoustic may feel pleasant to play in, but could mean we lose important detail from your performance.

Upload your video(s) to YouTube, and share the link(s) to your application form.

  • Liverpool Flute Academy course tutors Cormac Henry, Helen Wilson and Sameeta Gahir will be joined by Guest Judge Eliza Marshall to act as the judging panel for Liverpool International Flute Competition 2024.

Adjudicators reserve the right to request further information from competitors should it be required to help the adjudication process.

Adjudication decisions are final and may not be appealed.
